Abstract

In this study, the concept of electro-mechanical receptance (EMR) is introduced for cracked functionally graded beams integrated with a piezoelectric layer. A double-spring model is employed to represent a transverse edge crack in functionally graded Timoshenko beams subjected to harmonic point excitation. The electrical response of the piezoelectric layer is then derived in an analytical form, enabling the formulation of EMR for such beam systems. The proposed EMR is subsequently examined with respect to material properties and crack parameters, including location and depth, and its applicability for crack detection is discussed.
